About Us
Welcome to "Mochi AN.”—the heart of our love for Japan's rich and colorful culture.
Based in The Hague, Netherlands, we—Misato and Izumi, two friends from Japan—started this cozy space to share something special from home. Our journey began with mochi-making workshops, bringing people together through the joy of Japanese traditions.
Alongside our workshops, we have always made Matcha-based drinks, sweets, and foods, carefully crafted to highlight their rich flavors.
In 2025, we began sharing the same high-quality matcha we use—sourced directly from tea farms in Kyushu, Japan. Selected and tested through our own cooking and baking experience, our matcha is perfect for drinking, baking, and cooking, bringing authentic Japanese flavors into daily life.
Through our workshops and matcha creations, we hope to share a little taste of Japan with you.

The meaning of AN : あん
- Japanese sweet bean paste: 餡 (an)
- Humble & simple hut: 庵 (an)
- 'a:あ'- the first and 'n:ん'- the last in Japanese alphabet
'AN.' embodies three simple ideas:
'An' (餡) represents the core taste of traditional Japanese sweets. 'An' (庵) reflects our aim for a cozy space. Lastly, it signifies completeness & wholeness, spanning from 'a:あ' to 'n:ん' in the Japanese alphabet.

Misato Kashiwagi
A Nagoya native and a born food lover, Misato is at the heart of “AN’s” culinary magic. With an eye for beauty and a taste for the exquisite, she also has a deep affection for vintage wares and the timeless quality they represent.
Her grandmother, a master of the tea ceremony, influenced Misato’s aesthetic, which now defines the world of “AN.”

Izumi Saito
From the snow-clad village of Aizu in Fukushima Prefecture, Izumi was raised amidst the craft of building tea rooms and traditional houses. This background fostered a deep love for storytelling, believing in its power to connect people and cultures.
At “AN.” she channels this passion into weaving stories that bridge traditions.
